When I moved to San Miguel de Allende the local bus system confused me terribly, and I think most others have the same issue.

After building San Miguel Murals, someone reached out and asked if I might want to also build a similar “map” of the bus routes. I was happy to see if I could fix my own lack of understanding of the bus system along with helping others, so I volunteered.

As I started building it, it became clear that it should start with the question of “where do you want to go?” and then give directions. San Miguel is also so small and so walkable (despite the cobblestones) that it made sense to first give walking as an option and buses as a 2nd choice.

And it was based on these simple ideas that go-sma.com was born.

Many thanks to Mary Timmons, Randy Leo and Colleen, Adolfo Cervantes and Rodrigo Zapateros who spent years documenting the urbanos bus system and helping people navigate it. And an extra thanks to Leo who continues to help document and correct the bus stop data.
