Las Monjas / La Concepción

A historic convent and church complex in the center of town, commonly called Las Monjas (“the nuns”) after the Conceptionist nuns who once lived here.

Its big dome, added in the 1890s by Zeferino Gutiérrez (the same stonemason behind the Parroquia’s façade), was inspired by Les Invalides in Paris, and it’s one of the landmarks of the skyline.

The convent’s former cloister next door is now the Bellas Artes cultural center, so it’s easy to visit both. It’s very close to the Centro.
