The Parroquia de San Miguel Arcángel is the iconic symbol of San Miguel, towering over the Jardín and famous across Mexico and the world.
It was first constructed in 1709 on the site of an earlier church dating back to the 1600s. In the 1880s, it was redone with its current facade.
The architect and stonemason Zeferino Gutiérrez drew his inspiration from drawings and postcards of European cathedrals, combined with local culture and traditions.
It’s free to enter (a donation box helps with upkeep). It’s generally open from early morning into the evening, with a break in the afternoon, roughly 2pm to 4pm. Mass is held several times a day, so be quiet and respectful if a service is on.

How to ride the bus

- Where to catch itThis site documents many bus stops but not all of them. Sometimes buses can be flagged down between stops.
- Flag it downAs the bus nears, raise your hand so the driver knows to stop for you.
- Get on at the frontBoard at the front door. Buses can be crowded, so step toward the back to make room.
- Pay the driverIt's 10 MXN, cash only. Pay as you board. Bring coins or small bills.
- Signal your stopA block before, call out "Baja!" or press the buzzer if there is one.
- Get off at the rearStep off at the back door when there is one, or the front if not.
- Hours & frequencyMost routes run about 6 AM–9 PM, roughly every 10 minutes on main lines. Expect longer waits early, late, and on Sundays and holidays.
- Good to knowKeep small change ready and belongings close. Knowing your destination's cross-streets or a nearby landmark helps the driver.
