Presa Ignacio Allende is a large reservoir on the Río Laja, southwest of San Miguel. It’s a wide, open body of water surrounded by countryside, a complete change of scenery from the cobblestone streets of the center.
It’s popular for birdwatching, especially in winter when migrating waterbirds, including white pelicans, arrive. People also come for the lakeside views and sunsets.
It’s well outside town, but reachable by bus; plan for a long ride each way and check the time of the last bus back before you go.
