The Casa de Allende Museum occupies the house where Ignacio Allende, one of the principal leaders of the Mexican War of Independence, was born in 1769.

Now an INAH historical museum, it covers both Allende himself and the history of San Miguel during the colonial period. Its rooms and objects illustrate everyday life in a prosperous colonial and early-19th-century household.

It’s open Tuesday to Sunday, 9am to 5pm, and closed on Mondays. Entry is 145 pesos, or 80 pesos for Mexican nationals and foreign residents.

It’s directly next to the Jardín and the Parroquia.

Getting there

  • Right by the Jardín, in the heart of the centro.
  • Buses that stop nearby: Rutas 4, 6, 10 and 11 at Zacateros (entre Umarán y Pila Seca) (4 min walk); Ruta 5 at Umarán y Zacateros (4 min walk); Ruta 1 at Oratorio/Plaza Zaragoza (7 min walk).

  • Board at the front and pay 10 MXN cash.
  • Say "Baja!" a block before your stop.
  • Get off at the back.

  • Hours & frequencyMost routes run about 6 AM–9 PM, roughly every 10 minutes on main lines. Expect longer waits early, late, and on Sundays and holidays.
